Aberystwyth ( (listen), Welsh: [abɛˈrəstʊɨθ] (listen); literally 'Mouth of the Ystwyth') is a town in Ceredigion, Wales. Aberystwyth is in the historic county of Cardiganshire. Since the late 19th century, it has been a major educational centre, with the establishment of University College Wales in 1872 (now Aberystwyth University).
